Gavin’s favourite
Gavin’s favourite rock : chalcopyrite – one of the first samples I ever collected at Parys when I started geology as my hobby. Fantastic history and industrial heritage around the mineral, the mines, the port and the importance of Anglesey globally at the end of the 18thC. Plus a decent sample always looks good in a rock collection!
Gavin’s favourite place : Carmel Head – remote and usually not many people, accessed from coastal path at Cemlyn, great views across to the Skerries, excellent for seabird watching and dolphins/porpoises, the old mines, the unusual White Ladies and of course, the Carmel Head thrust, that massive low angle fault that stretches across the isand to the east coast at Lynas.
Gavin’s favourite walk : My favourite walk is the stretch of coast from Treaddur to Rhoscolyn via Bwa Gwyn and the blowhole. ( a guide will be forthcoming but meanwhile you can read about these rocks here)

and the great folding in the Cambrian coastal exposures (best seen from a canoe!).

There is always an acrobatic chough here in the winter, a resident goat on the cliffs and chance of dolphins further out.

There are stunning views across to the Llyn Peninsula, especially Yr Eifl and what better than finishing up with some excellent food at the White Eagle…
