Is this an impact of climate change ???

Recent storms have led to various problems which might be a possible impact of climate change. There are many places on Anglesey where houses are close to sea level, and also many places where crucial infrastructure is close to sea level. But climate change is not just about an overall rise in sea level, it is also about bigger storms and bigger waves which can reach far higher than any predicted sea level rise! Bigger waves can also cause more damage, whilst reaching features not previously affected.

Trearddur sea front had to be reinforced with large boulders and a new concrete esplanade. Porth Amlwch had large boulders added to its sea defences. Beaumaris has not only a new, stronger sea front, but a sea wall with large stainless steel gates that can be closed to prevent flooding of The Green. Increasing storminess may be an impact of climate change.

The road from Beaumaris to Penmon runs along the sea front in a number of places and is susceptible to both sea level rise and flooding or damage by large waves from what seem to be an increasing number of large storms. This news item from BBC Wales highlights some of the social problems that could result when the road is impassible.
